What to Expect in a Session
Your journey with ketamine-assisted psychotherapy is a deeply personal and healing experience. Here’s what you can expect:

Eligibility: Before beginning ketamine-assisted psychotherapy, a thorough evaluation by a medical professional is required to determine if ketamine therapy is a suitable and safe option for you.

Preparation: Our first session will consist of a 60-minute assessment with no ketamine. The second session will be 50 minutes of preparation, also without ketamine. By the third session, we can actually administer the ketamine and proceed with treatment.

Ketamine Administration: After you’re fully comfortable and ready to start, you’ll receive ketamine, prescribed by your medical professional and guided by me. The ketamine will facilitate a state of deep introspection and openness.

Therapeutic Exploration: During the ketamine experience, I’ll support and guide you every step of the way, helping you to explore the thoughts and emotions that arise.

Integration: After the ketamine experience (typically this will last 1 hour), we’ll spend the second half of our session discussing and integrating your insights, helping you apply what you’ve learned to your everyday life and create a continued treatment plan.

Frequently Asked Questions about Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy
What is ketamine-assisted psychotherapy?
Ketamine assisted psychotherapy combines the use of ketamine, a medication known for its rapid antidepressant effects, with traditional talk therapy techniques. This approach helps to achieve deeper emotional processing and quicker symptom relief.
Is ketamine therapy safe?
Yes, ketamine therapy is considered safe when administered by a qualified professional in a controlled setting. It has been extensively studied and is used in medical and therapeutic contexts to treat severe mental health conditions.
How quickly can I expect to see results?
Many patients experience relief within hours to days after their first ketamine treatment. However, results can vary depending on individual circumstances and your specific treatment plan.
What should I expect during a session?
During a ketamine assisted psychotherapy session, you will be in a completely safe and comfortable environment. You will receive a dose of ketamine, and then engage in therapeutic conversations to process emotions and experiences. I will guide you throughout the entire session.
How many sessions will I need?
The number of sessions varies from person to person. Some people experience significant relief after a few sessions, while others may require ongoing treatment. I will work with you to develop a personalized treatment plan tailored to you.
Are there any side effects?
While ketamine therapy is generally well-tolerated, some may experience mild side effects such as dizziness or nausea, but an anti-nausea will be prescribed. These are typically short-lived and I will be monitoring for any side effects the entire session.
Will this therapy work for me if other treatments have failed?
Ketamine assisted psychotherapy has shown great promise for those who have not responded to other treatments. It takes a different approach by targeting brain neurotransmitters and enhancing neuroplasticity, which often leads to better outcomes for some.
